Marienplatz, the central square in the heart of Dingolfing’s old town, owes its name to the cast-iron fountain erected in 1867. In 1750, the fountain was located on the southern side of Marienplatz, approximately at the level of the building at Marienplatz No. 8, and was supplied with water from the colling fountain. It was later moved to its current location. Today, the fountain is adorned bay a statue of the Virgin Mary, which gives the fountain and square its name.
